Carroll Education Foundation's Grant Recipients and Sponsors 2007

Students in third grade classrooms at Rockenbaugh Elementary will be provided with 180 non-fiction books on various Science and Social Studies content areas through the funding of the grant, “Reading Widely and Wildly.” We believe that non-fiction reading engages students and provides interesting and thought provoking conversation in the classroom. When students are engaged in high interest nonfiction text they become wide and wild, active readers. They learn to read, write and talk about things that matter to them and they learn things they never knew before. The books will be used for self-selected independent reading, reading comprehension lessons, and to guide discussion in Science and Social Studies.
