We will ignite learning in the fourth grade this year with a new instructional tool: the torch. The torch is a small and exciting piece of technology that is ready to use when inserted into a USB port (like our district provided laptop). We will incorporate it into our existing units that we teach because the device contains state mandated, grade-level specific material in the subjects of Math, Science, and Social Studies. The Ignite media library consists of movies, songs, animations, charts, graphs, and interactive flipcharts to promote student interaction, student engagement, and a deeper understanding of key concepts. When using the Ignite! Curriculum, we will encourage higher level thinking skills by pausing Ignite! media to pose questions and stimulate debate about concepts. Students will “learn by doing” while working on the Promethean boards, allowing us to use them to their maximum capabilities in the classroom. In addition, the lessons from the torch address all learning styles and emphasize the connections students make in the concepts taught in class. We are excited to receive this grant and we are looking forward to learning with the torch!
